I have been studying 2 Timothy and what it means to truly suffer for the gospel. I looked up the word suffer in the Greek and this is what it means, to suffer misfortune; to bear hardship patiently. Suffering means different things to each individual. I don’t know about you but when I encounter trials it’s hard for me to endure patiently. Sometimes I’ll question God or I’ll complain, unknowingly. As I was studying the word suffering I also discover some cross-references in the Word that tells me what I need to do when I encounter hardship.
Four Biblical Ways to Overcome Trials Patiently:
2 Corinthians 6:7: in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left
1. Be in the Word of Truth – Read the Word. Stay in the Word.
2. The power of God – Know the power of God. Abhor Evil. Cling to what is good. (Rom. 12:9) Your faith is not to rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Cor. 2:5)
3. By the weapons of righteousness – Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:10-11)
4. Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise! (James 5:13)
We can never go wrong with the Word. I pray that your faith will not rest in your own wisdom but in the power of God! Stay blessed and be blessed!
