Did you know that it’s okay to enjoy life and be merry? Many Christians feel guilty when God has given them a blessing or a peaceful life. They feel like they have to defend, explain or prove themselves to others. We really don’t.
The other day, a thought came to my mind about enjoying life. I’m not talking prosperity gospel stuff here. I was reminded this morning to read Ecclesiastes chapters 1-3. I came over some very powerful verses that spoke to me. I wanted to share them with you.
King Solomon talked about how he had everything he ever dreamed of and wanted, he built huge homes, made gardens and parks with fruit trees. He had slaves, power, and great sum of silver and gold! And then he goes on to say, “But I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless – like chasing the wind. There was nothing worthwhile anywhere. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat and enjoy anything apart from Him? God gives wisdom, knowledge and joy to those who please him. So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor for these are gifts from God.”
To be happy and to do good in life are worthy goals, but there’s so much more to life. When there is wisdom, knowledge, joy that comes only from the Lord, we are able to enjoy what’s been given to us. Real pleasure is found in God. His favor enriches what we have.
Go ahead and enjoy life, with the perspective that it all came from God! He loves to bless His children. Walk in His peace, know that He has given you good things to enjoy!
The Lord withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. – Psalm 84:11
